I had the pleasure of attending the Polish Film Cocktail Party hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York and Polish Filmmakers NYC recently. The Polish film industry have all reason to celebrate this year; while short film "Joanna" by Aneta Kopacz was nominated for an Oscar, "Ida" by Pawel Pawlikowski won Best Foreign Language Film of the Year and had a second nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography. Beautiful "Ida" took the world by storm with 68 awards and 56 nominations in total.
Artistic Director Michal Oleszcyk of the Festiwal Polskich Filmów Fabularnych informed the guests about this and other happenings in Polish film. Congratulations, Poland, for such a wonderful film year! "Ida" is available on Netflix if you haven't seen it yet.
